| NASHVILLE, TN -Adtec Digital's digital video equipment is facilitating dynamic audiovisual presentations for patient education at Wang Vision Institute, located in Nashville, Tenn. Adtec's edje-1013 digital video player served as the primary video playback device for educating patients at Wang Vision Institute, a modern laser facility equipped with the state-of-the-art laser vision surgery technology and novel technologies that restore vision in terminally corneal blind patients. "The goal of the installation was to create an in-house television network and replace the unreliable DVD players running the content," Gemini Production Group Project Manager, Scott Pessoni, said. "Adtec's edje fed a distribution amplifier for various monitors and was also connected directly to the office LAN. This allowed us to update the video remotely and push new content without leaving our office to shuttle new DVD's." Gemini Production Group created a user-friendly software program to accompany the edje-1013, allowing television programming change easily. "Previously there was no easy-to-use software directed at the end user," Pessoni said. "The current version of the software allows for clip naming with descriptions, video-on-demand playback and simple playlist generation. Future versions will incorporate playlist scheduling, scrolling text, graphic bug overlay and FTP services." Wang Vision Institute presents a large ensemble of news clips reporting on experimental eye surgeries as well as an array of lecture programs from physicians, effectively educating his patients. "In order to help educate patients and keep them abreast of our cutting-edge research program and new surgery development that restores vision in the blind, we needed a video presentation system in our patient lobby to show news programs and scientific presentations about our unique eye surgeries," Wang Vision Institute's founder, Ming Wang, M.D., Ph.D., said. "It is a demanding task to put our programs together cohesively and logically, but our new, state-of-the-art video presentation system in our patient lobby incorporates the vision and creativity of the producers of the system." "Dr. Ming Wang is constantly in the news for his innovative procedures and keeping DVD's up-to-date was a challenge," Pessoni said. "We wanted to play certain videos on different days, so the patients would have something relaxing to watch on the days of their procedure and a more upbeat piece on non-procedure days." "We also wanted to integrate Video on Demand functionality," Pessoni said. "If a patient needs to see a certain patient education video, we wanted to make it easy for the staff to select a video for playback." "We are very satisfied with Adtec's edje," Pessoni said. "It has proven itself to be more reliable and robust than the DVD players that were replaced. The only moving items on the edje are the hard disk and cooling fan. There has been little maintenance needed to keep everything running smoothly." "After conducting extensive research for a device that would store a large amount of video that was affordable and programmable, we decided on Adtec," Scott Pessoni said.
