![]() NASHVILLE, TN – Adtec Digital's Soloist HD Digital Media Server was awarded a Sound and Video Contractor magazine Pick Hit Award at InfoComm 2004 in Atlanta, GA. "A panel of judges consisting of industry-related people, including system designers, integrators, technicians, consultants and contributors to the magazine, walked the show floor and selected products they thought represented positive advancements in technology," Sound and Video Contractor Editor, Mark Johnson, said. "Products were evaluated based on innovative or sophisticated design, by setting a new benchmark in price or performance, and ultimate practicality." Criteria dictated each product must be debuting for the first time at InfoComm and must ship sometime this calendar year. "We're pleased and honored to have received a Pick Hit Award," President, Kevin Ancelin, said. "The S3DMS is the synthesis of Adtec's development of a decade of decoder technology coupled with our more recent development of Real Time encoder technology. It's two streams of product development coupled in one box." The digital media appliance combines the functions of a digital video recorder, player, switcher and server in one device. "The product offers users powerful features including multiple-layer with multiple region text and graphic overlays, advanced video scaling and broadcast time delay (time shifting)," Ancelin said. The S3DMS offers automated Real Time MPEG 1 and 2 encoding from analog or Serial Digital (SDI) sources as well as Real Time transcoding of DV formats from non-linear editors through IEEE 1394 (Firewire). The innovative two slot design allows for implementation of one of each encoder and decoder module or two of an encoder or decoder, providing flexibility in a system configuration. The S3DMS supports new and future compression CODEC devices, making the appliance economically sound. "We expect the product to have a broad appeal across a wide range of markets, including production and post-production, entertainment, digital signage, surveillance, news gathering and narrow market television," VP of Sales and Marketing, Ron Johnson, said. "The applications for the S3DMS are endless. An advertising agency can manage a national retail chain's digital signage network directly from their production studio. A cable or broadcast channel can integrate local origination programming such as church services, city council meetings or sports events, into their line-up, either live or stored for later playback." Infocomm 2004, the world's largest professional AV communications and systems integration industry exposition, took place June 5-11 in Atlanta, exhibits opened on June 9. Adtec Digital is a world-leading manufacturer of professional MPEG 2 based solutions including decoders, encoders, multiplexers, commercial insertion systems and digital cable headends.
