NASHVILLE, TN – With help from Adtec Digital, Nashville’s community access channel, CATV19, updated their broadcast system recently to further facilitate program automation and manage their nighttime programming. CATV, whose studio is located on Nashville State Technical Institute’s campus, is a channel available to Davidson county and Metro Nashville residents to use for all forms of public expression, community information and debate on public issues. Available in 165,000 homes, CATV airs diverse viewpoints on issues of social, civic and public concern. Supporting CATV and their efforts, Adtec donated their Lite-Ning™ broadcasting system last year to allow the station to personally automate their program content and control tape decks used for their daytime programming. Recently CATV updated their system by purchasing Adtec’s Soloist 2S™ MPEG 2 Playback System along with a digital studio encoder. The encoder will enable videotaped programming to be converted to a file similar to that used in DVD players. Once converted, programs can be distributed to the Soloist 2 for broadcast at a later time. This capability furthers CATV’s automation process and controls their nighttime programming. With these upgrades, CATV hopes to meet their goal of broadcasting 24 hours a day with total digital playback. “We are very excited about the new products,” says Jim Gilchrist, CATV’s executive director. “They enable us to air programming 24 hours a day instead of 17 hours a day, which will benefit the people of Nashville who watch television during the night or work different shifts.” Some of CATV’s most popular shows include “The Bat Poet,” Pete Wade’s “Back to the Streets” and Larry Underwood’s “Chiller Cinema.” For more information on CATV, their programs or how to become a member, go to www.catvnashville.tripod.com.
