NASHVILLE, TN – Royal Caribbean International recently installed Adtec Digital's edje MPEG-2 digital video players on Explorer of the Seas, one of the company's Voyager-class vessels, the largest cruise ships in the world. Royal Caribbean is using Adtec's edje units to broadcast programming on several exclusive in-cabin TV channels that are specifically created and designed for the line's guests, including "Retro TV" classic TV shows, and "Family TV" off network sitcoms and dramas. Revenue channels and satellite programming from networks such as CNN and ESPN are also broadcast to the cabins. "We chose Adtec because of the simple installation and the short learning curve involved with using the equipment," says Mark Perry, Specialist, TV/ITV Technical Support, for Royal Caribbean. "The software is very intuitive." "One of the major deciding factors was price," adds Perry. "Adtec offers a simple and cost effective solution for video playback and scheduling." Adtec Digital is a world-leading manufacturer of professional MPEG-2 based solutions including decoders, encoders, multiplexers, single channel commercial insertion controllers and digital cable headends.
