NASHVILLE, TN – Adtec Digital's multimedia digital video player, the Mirage, was recently integrated into the Municipal Park museum in Elche, Spain, by Techex Communications and Systems of Madrid. "The Mirage was chosen because of simple installation and track record of reliability, suited for 24-7 operation," Techex Chief Engineer, Carlos Alonso, said. "In addition, Adtec's Mirage has its own schedule and control protocols making integration child's play." The twelve Mirages, purchased by Techex, are each playing distinct video sequences, while three are delivering video to the museum's main projection system, and nine output to TFT screens located in each of the museum's nine apses. The main projection system is housed in a modernistic, totem-like structure, located in the central area of the museum. The system integrates three Mirages, three projectors, four robotic spotlights and a series of rotating disks allowing text to be projected over the video. "Tourists visiting the museum will meet an ambitious projection system displaying a short film," Techex Marketing Spokeswoman, Carolina Antony, said. "The film content shows interesting places in the region and also describes regional costumes and culture." The Mirage's RS-232, TTL and Ethernet port were used to control external devices including lights and cameras. "Each TFT screen displays a sequence of four MPEG 2 video clips and each Mirage TTL port is connected to a set of push buttons, placed on the handrails, in front of each display," Alonso said. Visitors can select their language of choice by pressing the corresponding button. A unique control script is then executed by the Mirage to change the audio language track without interrupting the video in progress. "The Mirage is not only a reliable MPEG 2 digital playback solution, but a multipurpose multimedia appliance," Alonso said.
