NASHVILLE, TN – Adtec Digital, along with Ford Audio-Video in Dallas, recently installed a 16 channel IPTV system with VOD into the Sherman Independent School District in Sherman, Texas. The staff at Sherman ISD wanted to replace their traditional cable system with IP video distribution, as well as integrate IPTV into new classrooms which are currently being built for their 6,500 students and staff. Each new building is set to accommodate only IP technology - there is to be no coax or phone wiring at all. A total of 13 campuses at the Sherman School District will have access to video content over IP when the building projects are complete. Adtec implemented Edje 2000 streaming encoders to convert RF signals from the local cable company to IP for distribution across the campuses, which are connected through a virtual LAN. The educators at Sherman access video streams through Adtec’s iptvManage solution. This browser-based control and management application runs on Adtec’s Middleware Application Server (MAS). Video is received via VLC media player onto the desktop, is decoded and distributed to projectors located in the classrooms There are two Amino 110 set top boxes in place which receive IPTV programming and feed video content to plasmas in the campus hallways. Most of the distributed video content is provided by the local cable company. However, there is one channel created specifically for announcements from the principal, and Power Point messages regarding school information and events. Kyle Harris, Communications Systems Administrator at Sherman ISD says of the Adtec solution, “It’s a great product and we’re excited to use it. It won’t take anything other than training to deploy (IPTV content distribution) to a new campus.” Tim Hendrix, a senior account manager with Ford Audio-Video, collaborated with Adtec on the project. Tim says, “It (IPTV) was new ground for all of us in the Dallas division. Adtec was instrumental in coming out and demonstrating the product to Sherman. We received a lot of support from Adtec.” Ford Audio-Video designs, installs, services, and rents professional sound, video, lighting, and security systems.
