| NASHVILLE, TN - Adtec Digital recently provided a Middle Tennessee State University engineering student with an opportunity to build a push-button control device for Adtec's MPEG players, giving him valuable experience in the technology industry.
MTSU Senior, Jayme McQuillan, constructed a microcontroller with serial command capability to control Adtec's Mirage MPEG player, as a project assigned by MTSU engineering professor, Dr. Karim Salman. "I used Adtec's software to configure the Mirage player. Then, I used my application software to send API commands as an ASCII text stream to the Mirage," McQuillan said. "The product was relatively inexpensive to build, costing under fifty dollars." McQuillan's controller is an inexpensive solution with more sophisticated control than a standard parallel interface. "Jayme's device is a push-button that generates basic transport functions as well as advanced alternative commands," Adtec VP of Sales and Marketing, Ron Johnson, said. "This project was a good way to give Jayme experience, offering to share his solution with Adtec customers. It's a win-win situation." "I wanted to acquire some real world experience and to prove my abilities in a real life application through my senior project," McQuillan said. "After some trial and error, I'm confident in my accomplishment. And I had a lot of fun building the controller."
