| Adtec Digital Crushes Glass Floor of Interoperable MPEG 4 AVC Low Latency
|
NASHVILLE, TN -- Adtec Digital has shattered the common myth that MPEG 4 AVC (H.264) must have higher latencies than MPEG 2 with their mediaHUB-HD422 high definition multi-CODEC contribution encoder.
Adtec Digital participated in the WBU-ISOG interoperability event in at Telesat in Ottawa, Canada in June 2009. The mediaHUB-HD422 encoder’s latency numbers were the absolute lowest of ALL participating compression vendors, compared against some other participants, Adtec's latency was 10 times lower.
Adtec’s interoperable latency numbers are comparable to the finest tuned end to end offerings which generally speaking are not a viable option based on the interoperability mandate of mobile remote contribution. Typically, the mediaHUB-HD422 in low delay mode will deliver MPEG 4 AVC with end to end latencies of under 600 ms, with the lowest setting well under 400 ms.
"Adtec continually strives for three major operational characteristics with our award winning compression: Interoperability, Low Latency and Perfect Dolby E." said Kevin Ancelin, President of Adtec Digital.
According to Ancelin, Adtec Digital's engineers, testers, lab and customers ensure that their encoders interoperate with deployed IRDs and do so offering the lowest latency possible within the constraints of the incumbent IRD population.
The key to low latency is not offering an end to end solution, it is offering a compression platform that not only supports incumbent IRDs but does so reliably while driving latency as low as the IRDs can manage.
For example, a major news network contributes live news from their helicopter using Adtec’s mediaHUB-HD422 encoder. They use both MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 high definition transmission profiles easy managed with the remote flip of a switch.
“News is even more demanding than sports in that interviews require the absolute lowest delay possible to emulate natural conversation. News demands low latency and low bit rates; each is a significant challenge.” said Ancelin, “However, both are easily handled by Adtec’s award winning mediaHUB-HD422 multi CODEC contribution work horse.”
The mediaHUB-HD422 supports the most demanding MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 AVC contribution, distribution and studio encoding applications. It boasts the ability to encode any combination of HD and SD, MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 AVC with 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 color space. The mediaHUB-HD422 supports past, present and future broadcast infrastructures boasting the best in class interoperability.
The mediaHUB-HD422 received the 2009 STAR Award for superior technology at NAB 2009. Adtec's Total ATSC distribution compression, multiplexing and PSIP solution won the STAR Award at NAB 2008.
