Notes:DHCP - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an Internet protocol for automating the configuration of network parameters. DHCP can be used in a Soloist to automatically assign IP address, Gateway IP address, and Subnet IP mask. Also, the Soloist will supply its Unit name to the DHCP server as its hostname, and the DHCP server can then notify a DNS server that this units IP address is associated with unitname.domainname since the IP address is transparent to the remote user.<p> When the DHCP configuration parameter is set to ON, the Soloist will shutdown all networking and restart it, searching for a DHCP server. If no DHCP server is found, the unit cannot obtain an IP address, and therefore, no TCP/IP communication can be done to the unit. The unit will continue to try to locate a DHCP server indefinitely or until the DHCP parameter is set to OFF. If a DHCP server is located and an IP address is successfully obtained from it, the unit will start TCP/IP networking utilizing that IP address (subnet mask, and Gateway IP). The configuration variables will reflect the values that were obtained through the use of DHCP Products Supporting Command:Created By: Adtec Digital Inc |
